SURREY, BC – Ten non-profit organizations have been awarded more than $50,000 in Community Grants from SurreyCares Community Foundation (SCCF). These grants will help deliver much-needed support to local residents from various walks of life.
The grants are made possible by generous donors in our community who partner with SurreyCares and entrust us to invest their donations in enduring endowments. Their gifts remain intact in perpetuity, while the annual return on those investments is made available for community grants. SCCF has identified three categories of support for these grants: general community, special needs and youth. The categories are intentionally broad, so they can address a wide range of needs within the community and help as many non-profits as possible in their efforts to address these needs.
“It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to have been involved in reviewing and approving the allocation of Surrey Cares Community Grant funds,” says Rupinder Chhina, an SCCF Director and Chair of the SCCF Grants Committee. “There are so many amazing organizations in Surrey who are meeting the pressing needs of our community, whether it is food security, mental health, or housing, to name a few. The ask is always greater than the funds available so our aspiration is that our endowments continue to grow so that we can meet more of Surrey's needs as we grow and prosper together as a community.”
SCCF received 63 applications, totaling $369,259 in requests to fund services and projects across the community. The gap between available and requested funds is something that SCCF works diligently to close.
“We are so grateful for our fund-holders and donors,” says Robert Levy, Chair of the SCCF Board of Directors. “Their generosity is instrumental in helping us address community need in many areas. But funding requests always outstrip available funds, and the SCCF team is committed to working with individuals and businesses interested in leaving a meaningful and lasting legacy in our community so we can create positive impact for more residents and ensure no one is left behind.”
