Volunteer Cancer drivers Society (VCDS)
The VCDS is singularly focused on providing free, safe, reliable, compassionate transportation and peace of mind for Lower Mainland cancer patients who have no viable means of getting to their essential treatment.
A cancer diagnosis is devastating. Treatment requires intensive, debilitating procedures occurring over a period of months. Access to and from these treatments shouldn’t be an additional burden for patients and their families to deal with during their life-threatening journey.
As a community funded service, we are entirely reliant on volunteer efforts to generate donations and grants from patients and the public, municipalities, corporations, first responders, foundations, service clubs and associations and importantly from our own charitable drivers. We do not receive financial assistance from the Canadian Cancer Society, the BC Cancer Agency or the provincial government.
We have no paid employees, vehicles, facilities or other significant overhead. Our 7 Region dispatchers are homebased. We provide a $0.48/km vehicle reimbursement to our volunteer drivers.
